« In connection with the King’s 50th anniversary on the throne, he donated a large sum to the Swedish Sea Rescue Society, which will enable the construction of a brand new rescue boat.
Over the weekend, The King visited the shipyard where the boat is being built to see the process and drawings of the boat’s design.
King Carl XVI Gustaf has shown his support for Swedish sea rescue through a generous donation that will enable the construction of a brand new rescue boat and thus a new class of boat. This initiative is part of the King’s long-standing commitment to the Swedish Sea Rescue Society and to promoting safety at sea.
Over the weekend, The King visited the shipyard where the boat is being developed. Together with representatives from the Swedish Sea Rescue Society, The King was shown the process and drawings of the boat’s design.
Brand new 15 meter rescue boat
The new class of boat is specially designed to meet today’s requirements for maritime safety and effective rescue services. With improved technology and higher performance, the new boat will be able to operate in tougher conditions, further strengthening the capabilities of the Sea Rescue Society.
The rescue boat has good working areas with a separate command post, a floating wheelhouse for the best working environment and a large aft deck with space for a Rescuerunner. In addition, the boat is prepared for hybrid operation allowing for silent searches and to operate the boat with one diesel engine and two waterjets to reduce emissions when maneuvering and towing.

Valuable donation for maritime safety
The new class of boat represents a significant development in Swedish maritime rescue, and the donation from The King is a welcome addition that makes this project possible.
“It is valuable that donors want to be involved and invest in our new projects and concepts. It enables us to develop rescue boats for sea rescue both today and in the future,” says Lars Samuelsson, CEO of the Swedish Sea Rescue Society.

Bakamla launches fourth high-speed patrol vessel
The Maritime and Security Agency (Bakamla) launched on Monday the fourth domestically built high-speed patrol vessel, claiming it to be the fastest patrol boat in the country, in Tanjung Uncang waters in Batam, Riau Islands. “I can guarantee that this HSC [high-speed craft] is the fastest patrol boat in Indonesia,” Bakamla chief Vice Adm. Aan Kurnia said at the launch ceremony, adding that the boat would be used to intercept smugglers.
The vessel, built by shipbuilding company PT Palindo Marine Batam, can achieve speeds of around 65 knots (120 kilometers per hour) and cost Rp 10 billion (US$666,267), Aan said. Bakamla will deploy the boat in waters around Ambon in Maluku, which is within the agency’s Eastern Zone area. Previously, the agency had deployed two HSC in Batam in the Western Zone and one in the Central Zone.
“Smuggling boats can go up to 40 knots, which is why it’s important for us to have faster vessels,” Aan said. The Bakamla chief said that ideally each zone should operate 10 HSC. Last year, Government Regulation (PP) No. 13/2022 mandated the agency to improve inter-institutional coordination among various government stakeholders on maritime security and safety.
The regulation mandates Bakamla to lead maritime law enforcement operations and to act as official government representative in international forums on maritime security. The regulation, signed by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in March 2022, also empowers Bakamla to coordinate with other stakeholders in investigating violations of the law at sea. Bakamla was established in 2014 to boost the effectiveness of law enforcement at sea and is designed to become the country’s coast guard with its own armed vessels.
However, other institutions, including the Navy, already have authority over national waters and the vessels to enforce it. Besides the Navy, the Transportation Ministry runs the Coast and Sea Guard (KPLP) and the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry also has its own division, as does the Customs and Excise Agency and the National Police has its water and air branches. Many provincial administrations also run their own coast guard patrols. (dre) More about Palindo marine

« New super-fast speedboats for defence, special forces, customs, police, coastguard, search and rescue, etc. are being developed at a rapid pace. This is the main conclusion after the three-day “High Speed Boat Operations Forum” in Gothenburg 31 August – 2 September.
Text: Tor Husby
The speedboat forum was held for the 10th time. This year, the attendance counted some 300 invited delegates from 21 countries, and 22 boat types were presented. The speedboats are not just get- ting faster, but they are also better and safer than just a few years ago, and can be pow- ered by outboard engines of up to 500-600 horsepower. The speed potential is usually in excess of 60 knots, or 70 mph – 110 kph. Any accidents at this speed are likely to look like a freeway crash.
Carl Magnus Ullman, general secretary of the Gothenburg forum, says that European speedboat manufacturers and developers have come much further than the USA,
which is still struggling for better safety for the fast boat crews. »
Next generation rescue boats: A very personal highlight
PALFINGER MARINE secured a challenging order entailing the development of a new range of rigid-hulled inflatable boats (RHIBs) for the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) early last year.
« repost from https://www.palfingermarinestories.com/rescue-boats-for-knrm/ » « The keel laying ceremony of the first prototype of twelve boats in January 2023 marks the start of the production phase. The new 7.5-meter long, twin outboard RHIBs are specifically designed for fast interventions in the toughest conditions.
We sat down for a chat with our colleague Lise Dora Sluijter, Project Manager at PALFINGER MARINE in our Harderwijk office, to discuss how she experienced the exciting project in her capacity as project lead – and why this particular venture is so close to her heart.
Thank you for taking the time to talk to us, Lise. Let’s start with your personal background. Could you tell us a little about yourself?
Sure! I joined PALFINGER MARINE as a project manager in 2020, specifically for lifesaving appliances. I arrived with almost ten years of experience in the maritime technology industry. I followed my calling early by studying to be a marine officer at the Maritime Academy before entering a post-grad program in business administration, graduating with a master’s degree in marine shipping innovations in 2018.
What exactly does your job entail? How would you describe it?
As project manager, I am the key link between the customer and the internal project team. I am therefore at the center of any given project. I need to keep everybody on the team aligned, ensuring that customer needs and contract specifications are translated into an according product design. To this end, it is essential to remain critical, empathize with the customer, and maintain customer-centricity down to the smallest detail.
What is your role in the current KNRM project? And why is this particular project so special to you?
I am responsible for the project developing the new PB 750 RHIBs, a replacement of the current boat series used by KNRM, which have reached the end of their lifecycle. In this case, the customer is what makes the project so special to me. KNRM constitutes an association of mainly volunteers and operates no less than 42 rescue stations in the Netherlands. Almost everyone in the country knows the association itself, especially those who pursue a maritime hobby, or enjoy a relationship with any marine environment.
I spent every week during my childhood on the water in various types of boats, so KNRM is an organization that has accompanied me for most of my life.Lise Dora Sluijter, Project Manager at PALFINGER MARINE
I went on to carve out a career in the maritime industry, meaning I am particularly proud of being involved in – and even managing – this project. Some former classmates from the Maritime Academy are KNRM volunteers, so that adds another level to it.
What have been the greatest challenges so far?
I would argue that predicting every possible rescue scenario – and incorporating the correspondent features into the new, customized boat design – posed the greatest challenge. The original list of functional requirements provided by KNRM had approximately 45 items. However, this list had ballooned to more than 100 items by the final stage of the engineering phase.
We collaborated very closely with KNRM to consider all aspects of technical possibilities, costs, safety, maintenance, durability, and lifecycles. The result is a state-of-the-art design perfectly aligned with customer demands.
What is the timeline for the project? Will you be involved until full order completion?
I have been involved in the project right from the outset. I will accompany it until the RHIBs are delivered, including review of the internal testing procedures of KNRM to compile documentation for the new series.
In terms of timeframe, the assembly phase is scheduled for end of May. Our internal testing procedure should be completed by the end of August, meaning final delivery can be made in September 2023.
Let’s end our interview how we started it – on a personal note. How did you develop a passion for the marine industry?
Like I mentioned earlier, I grew up on various types of boats. My parents still own one, actually. The moment I completed secondary school, I started looking for studies and jobs that incorporate my passion for the sea and vessels.
That’s how I ended up at the Maritime Academy. I used to ride to Rotterdam Port to watch the ships – and I still do whenever I find the time during holidays!
So, all in all, I would say I have found the perfect stage for combining my passion for the sea with my professional dedication right here at PALFINGER MARINE. I love how my role allows me to facilitate the transition between theory and practice. »
To find out more about this exciting and challenging project, check out Palfingers press release about the keel laying ceremony. It includes some photos from a traditional event that promises good fortune during the production phase. We’ll keep an eye on the project and can’t wait to see how it progresses.

Marell extends the M15
With ‘Ambush’, Marell extends the M15 range, delivering a tender with quad(!) Mercury Verado 450R and 10 Custom Ullman Daytona seats to the mediterranean.
Marell extends the M15 platform with the Tender model Marell Boats delivers its first two M15 Tenders during the second quarter of this year. They are both custom-built for their new owners, where one will be based in the Mediterranean Sea and the other in the Stockholm archipelago. Extending the M15 platform to custom-built Tender models has been a priority for the shipyard this year. The two 15-meter boats are designed and built for pleasure boating with a large sunbed on the foredeck, and with a large sofa with a generous seating area that can be transformed into a spacious sunbed on the aft deck. The suspension seating will protect the driver, navigator, and passengers during high speeds and harsh conditions. Other features include champagne coolers, sunroof, water toys storage, carbon fiber interior, gangway, several fridges, and more.
The M15 Tender is based on Marell’s successful and proven M15 platform that was awarded the “Interceptor of the year” by the Baird publication, both 2019 and 2020. The M15 platform was selected as a patrol vessel by the Marine Police in Stockholm and as a fire fighter craft by the Greater Stockholm Fire Department, as well as a sightseeing boat by Hurtigruten Svalbard. Marell can now offer civilian versions with the launch of the M15 Tender model. “We are excited to launch additional M15 models and are confident that also recreational customers now can enjoy the ground-breaking performance our M15 Tender delivers, incl. speeds at around 65 knots, sensational maneuverability, energy efficiency and now also quality pleasure boating.” says Patrik Söderholm, founder and CEO of Marell Boats. The first M15 Tender carries the new Mercury V12 600hp Verado outboard engines which deliver not only extraordinary fuel economy but also superior maneuverability. Thanks to the steerable gear case with dual counter-rotating propellers the boat can be smoothly operated with a joystick during docking or Skyhook mode. This V12 engine is part of a new era from Mercury changing the industry in terms of not only performance but also service intervals which minimizes downtime for demanding users. One of the many features of the V12 outboard engine is that it can run up to 200 hours between engine oil changes. « We have a long relationship with Marell Boats and are very proud to have delivered the first quadruple V12 set-up in Europe to them, a set-up suitable for very demanding customers. Marell’s range of models suits our engine program exceptionally well.” says Pontus Liljequist, CEO Brunswick Marine Sweden.

BEST SUSPENSION SEATING SUPPLIER – ULLMAN DYNAMICS
Ullman Dynamics was recognised as the best suspension seating supplier, provinding the safest and most comfortable suspension seats on the global market.
“Most of our readers would be familiar with stories of high-speed voyages before Ullman seats became more widely available. Such voyages could be both uncomfortable and dangerous. Injuries and severe headaches were just some of the problems endured. Fortunately, Ullman Dynamics’ seats has put an end to such problems.”
– Baird Maritime
“Customers will ask for more, and that will require seats that are proven to protect people from injury and seats that last longer, with warranties to back them up. Customers will also want seats that don’t require operators to adjust them up, seats that are lighter and stronger, and seats that do not corrode or break, protecting people from injury regardless of the sea state.”
ASIS Boats has just completed the successful delivery of four new high-performance, aluminum constructed, 11-meter interceptor patrol-boats to the Lebanese Army’s Marine Commando Regiment (MCR) based in Amchit, Lebanon along with a ten-day course of intense boat-maintenance and boat-operator instruction.
ASIS utilized their expertise and their maritime passion to build and deliver four state-of-art Commando Boats under a subcontract to the United States Department of Defense’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and did so in record time while overcoming very significant challenges including substantial supply-chain management issues, the logistical intricacies of shipping boats into the explosion-damaged Port of Beirut as well as the multi-country complexities of COVID-19-compliance, the need for several in-country linguists and for written language translations… “No other boat-building company in the world could have successfully completed this very fast-paced and very complex project, and do so during the very challenging environment that our entire industry is facing today, I am so very proud of our entire team,” Said Mr. Roy Nouhra, ASIS Boat’s President and CEO.
The ASIS team worked hard, alongside of its many trusted industry partners, to ensure that these military boats would exceed both the customer’s requirements and expectations and that the boats would be delivered on-time and also combined with 10-days of elite classroom and on-water training courses that were custom designed for the Commando Regiment’s principal mission-profile of high-speed vessel interdiction and Visit Board Search and Seizure Operations (VBSS). The four 11m Rigid Inflatable boats are built with an aluminum deep V-shape hull and deck as well as a protective Orca hypalon 1670 Dtex Collar keeping the boats steady and riding smoothly.
Designed to be driven efficiently in rough seas they are certified under category « B » for offshore use with up to 15 passengers.
These Boats are equipped with: 1. 2 Ullman Jockey Suspension Seat with side handles (for Driver & Co‐Driver). 2. 12 Ullman Multi base Jockey Suspension Seat with side handles. 3. 3 x Heavy Duty ASIS Standard Gun Mount (1 gun post at bow and 2 Gun post at stern) 4. Black Painted Heavy Duty Aluminum T-Top. 5. Black Painted Heavy Duty Keel Guard (Full length of hull). 6. Black Painted Heavy Duty Aluminum Tube Ladder. 7. Four Stainless Steel Heavy Duty Lifting Points (2 at bow and 2 at stern).

Les sièges
Ullman Dynamics Biscaya sont un vrai plus dans le bateau et pour le
confort de nos équipes.
Ullman
Dynamics Biscaya seats are a real plus in the boat and for the comfort of our
teams.
« Ullman is a must for all professional end- users »
I
have been using all different type of Ullman Seats during my active
duty as a Navy officer, and High speed boat instructor.
After
so many hours and so many miles, sea trials, life boat training, maritime
police training, operational navigation, ocean crossings and several other
events, Ullman seats has protected my back for more than a decade, whilst
offering first class technical support.
We go out when all the others want to come in, failure is not an option in our universe. The only way of avoiding extremely severe impacts on our body and inherent pain is by using proper shock absorbing seats. When operating in the most adverse sea- conditions, we expect our gear to fulfill its purpose.
Ullman
is a must for all professional end- users!!
MARIO PINTO LT CDR (RES) Portuguese Maritime Authority
SPANISH RED CROSS TO OPERATE RESCUE BOAT PAIR
Salvamento Maritimo, the maritime search and rescue (SAR) agency that operates under the Spanish Ministry of Development, recently took delivery of two new rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) in a series from Portuguese builder Vanguard Marine.
Each RIB is equipped with four Ullman Dynamics Biscaya jockey seats with suspension systems and a custom-made aluminium console. The deck is covered with anti-slip material on the entire walking surface and is designed to accept different configurations depending on operational requirements. A rail system was therefore installed to allow the seats to be quickly and easily disassembled, assembled, and repositioned on the deck as needed.
A maximum of 24 people can be accommodated in addition to two crewmembers, making the boats ideal for situations wherein large numbers of people need to be evacuated to shore such as in rescuing survivors from a capsized ferry.
I am very impressed with this product which has required no maintenance or adjustment throughout the 13 years.
« I purchased Ullman seats for my 4.8 meter rib in 2008 and have utilised the vessel in the UK’ s Channel Island rough waters for thirteen years. The suspension and comfortability have been priceless – enjoyed by pilot and passengers alike. I am very impressed with this product which has required no maintenance or adjustment throughout the 13 years. »

« J’ai équipé mon nouveau bateau de 2 sièges ULLMAN Biscaya, et je ne regrette pas ce choix: le confort en navigation est incroyable. Je navigue en effet plus de 4000 nautiques par an, ce qui sollicite énormément le dos et les genoux. Les impacts en navigation sont totalement absorbés par les sièges, ce qui génère beaucoup moins de fatigue en fin de journée. »

Second vessel delivery marks successful completion of Damen order
On 12th November, the Pakistan Navy commissioned its new Corvette – a Damen OPV 1900 – named PNS Tabuk at
the Port of Constanta, Romania. The ship is part of a two vessel order
with Damen, signed by the Pakistan Ministry of Defence in 2017. Both
ships are built at Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania. The first vessel, PNS Yarmook, joined the Pakistan Navy’s fleet in February this year.
The Damen OPV 1900 feature 2 DAMEN INBOARD RHIB 1125. These crafts hold crew and pax on 13 Biscaya Mk3 BD HN Seats
Like her sister vessel, PNS Tabuk is a multipurpose, highly adaptable platform, capable of performing a wide variety of operations in a complex maritime environment. She is able to launch a helicopter and a UAV, as well as two RHIBs simultaneously.
During the commissioning, the delegates – which included many
attending the event remotely due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic –
were addressed by the commanding officer of PNS Tabuk, Captain
Muhammad Umair. The Captain acknowledged Damen’s professional competency
during the project and expressed confidence in future cooperation.
Managing director of Damen Shipyards Galati Flemming Sorensen,
speaking at the event, said, “Damen has been involved in many projects
in Pakistan since 1986 and we are very proud of this long-lasting and
trusting cooperation.”
He stated that the successful outcome of the project was the result of a close cooperation between all involved.
“Such an achievement is only possible with good coordination,
skillful workmanship, excellent teamwork and good cooperation between
all parties involved. Despite the unprecedented challenges of the
pandemic, the Pakistan, Romanian and Dutch project teams have managed,
with perseverance, to continue their work to successful completion.”
Damen will continue to provide support to PNS Tabuk during her service.
Damen’s yard in Galati has built more than 40 vessels for the defence and security segment, including the last seven complex naval vessels for the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Stefan cel Mare offshore patrol vessel, the flagship of the Romanian Border Police.
Marell M15 Quad Outboard Open
High-Speed Interceptor launched with successful testing
completed
Following the
success of the M15 Twin Sterndrive Interceptor launched last year at DSEI
Defense and Security Equipment International show in London, Marell Boats of
Sweden has now taken an additional step in the high-speed interceptor market.
Marell is launching the M15 Quad outboard open high-speed interceptor that
includes fine tuning of the M15 hull, adding four Mercury 450HP Outboard
engines on an extended platform, and support by dynamically operating jack
plates. This vessel shows outstanding performance and maneuverability compared
to other crafts in this highly competitive market segment.
Picture 1: M15Q in between test runs in the Stockholm archipelago
The M15 is in particular designed for high speed interception and boarding, with centre steering position for helmsman to optimize control and allow for full view of the surroundings during boarding manoeuvres and high speed turns. The crew and the officers are all safely and comfortable seated in Ullman shock absorbing seats which levels out the impact from the sea at high speeds up to 70 knots.
The raised fore deck creates a stable platform for the officers when approaching other vessels whilst the lower aft deck can be used when boarding smaller vessels and launching water crafts and rescue runners carried on deck. The aft deck is a very flexible and stable multi-purpose platform from where you even can launch crew members to a helicopter and successfully carry out complex SAR operations in high seas.
The M15 has been extensively tested by the shipyard engineering team, with experience from high speed offshore racing, by the engine manufacturer following strict performance and durability test procedures and also by the Swedish police in the Stockholm archipelago, with nearly 30.000 islands to navigate around. All parties are very satisfied with the safe and stable platform and the performance results achieved with the strong moderate V shaped bottom with hard chines, and longitudinal strakes, that shows no tendencies of chine tripping at full high-speed turns over 50 knots. Other tests, like avoidance tests, U-turn tests and straight-line tests have all confirmed exceptionally high vessel performance, with results in excess of customer expectations. As one example, the vessel accelerates from 0 to 50 knots in less than 12 seconds without losing the sight-line to the horizon.
The vessel is
designed to operate in very rough sea conditions, up to Sea State 6. With the
full body fore end, the vessel runs extremely dry with no green water on fore
deck or spray on windscreens. The hull plate of 8 mm and the special pattern of
longitudinal and transversal framing allows the vessel to handle impact from
the sea in speeds up to 70 knots without any damages or buckling tendencies of
the hull.
Moreover, all
Marell interceptors have a very competitive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), as
they are equipped with industry leading fuel-efficient solutions, designed to
minimize maintenance and service costs combined with an engineering and quality
approach to extend the life cycle.
The vessel is built
to meet classification requirements from Lloyds Register Grey boat code and
with design assessment in accordance to Lloyds Register + 100A1 SSC Patrol HSC
G2.
The main vessel dimensions
include the following:
LOA (incl. engines and fender)
15.46 m
BOA (incl. fender) 4.18 m
Depth deck to keel at midship 1.50
m
Depth deck at foredeck 2.43 m
Draught max. (approximately) 1.00
m
All Marell vessels are fabricated in jigs for
best quality and straightness. The jig frames forming the hull shape are
precision cut with the same water jet cutting method as for the hull material.
This precision work is thoroughly measured to be within the tight building
tolerances. Also, cut outs for the lifting strakes are made in the jig frames
with the precision cutting machine, making the jig a base for a very accurate
hull production of the bottom and sides of the craft with possibility to build
a number of hulls in same jig to identical dimensions and kept within very
small tolerances.
The deck girder structure of the Marell
crafts are designed to carry sandwich composite deck panels, which are glued to
the girder structure. This forms a strong and watertight bonding and the deck
panels themselves are acting as insulation against excess heat (from sun) and
reduces the deformation of the hull in really hot deck temperature as the
panels will absorb any elongation of the aluminum plating. By this method the
M15 will be very suitable to work across all climate zones with great
variations in air temperature and solar radiation.
The canopy is made
of vacuum moulded GRP, to reduce weight and noise and isolate the crew area
from the effects from both cold spells and burning sun. The novelty of this
design approach makes the M15 craft suitable for both arctic and tropical
conditions within the standard hull specification.
At present a third
Marell M15 Closed Cabin Interceptor is being built and tested, for speeds above
50 knots and with a walk around closed cabin. More information about this
unique vessel with state-of-the-art stern drive propulsion systems and Humphree interceptors will
come later this year.

other Marell vessels, please contact:

We’re
now sitting dockside admiring a 10m console model called Scem. For boat
lovers, this baby possesses an enticing set of numbers — 23 degrees at
the bum, 10m long with twin Yamaha 425 XTO outboards. Before we straddle
the Ullman shock-absorbing seat, we ask Rob what we should expect from a
high-powered, deep-vee, collared-boat. (At this point, The Captain is
attempting to look adult-responsible, but secretly is waiting for Rob to
turn a blind eye so he can make a hasty exit to Rottnest Island and
wrestle one of those cute and furry quokkas away for Mrs Captain.) “We
looked at making the ride a lot more comfortable and I’m a big fan of
Ullman shock-mitigating seats,” Rob says. “They improve any boat and
we’ve made them standard. They give me the ability to drive the boat
like I stole it and anybody should be able to do that. Getting a
10-tonne boat airborne is an addictive thing and it puts a smile on your
dial when you come back down and everyone wonders why there is no big
crash when we hit the water.”
